Edward (Ted) Widmer is a historian, writer, and archivist who served as a speechwriter in the Clinton White House. Formerly the director of the John Carter Brown Library, he has also served as an advisor to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and to Brown University President Christina Paxson. He is a widely published author, including of Brown: The History of an Idea, Listening In: The Secret White House Recordings of John F. Kennedy (with Caroline Kennedy), and Campaigns: A Century of Presidential Races. He is a senior fellow at the Center for American Progress and the Carnegie Council and Director of the John W. Kluge Center at the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C.
