HISTORIES

L. K. Comstock & Company Inc.
When L. K. Comstock & Company, one of the oldest electrical construction companies in the United States, decided to go public after nearly 80 years, senior managers recognized that they faced a turning point in the history of the firm. With corporate memory fading, they wanted to capture their traditions and experience at this time of transition—not only for employees but also for investors, who would value the company more highly if they knew the extent of its accomplishments, past as well as present.

The Winthrop Group produced Enterprise and Technology: A Brief History of LKC, Inc. This 50 page pamphlet traces the company’s fascinating history: from its founding in 1904 by Louis K. Comstock, who pioneered applications in electrical engineering and established the Council on Industrial Relations (a cornerstone of harmonious labor relations for over 60 years), through prestigious projects such as the Empire State Building, the New York subway system, and the Oak Ridge National Laboratory, to organizational changes designed to meet new challenges in the industry.
