Campbell Soup Company
Making a corporate archives accessible
The objective of Winthrop’s initial work for Campbell Soup was to prepare recommendations for organizing and making the archival collections accessible in accord
with the needs of the marketing and licensing functions. The work involved a review of the brand advertising, three-dimensional objects, photographs, artwork and other materials comprising the collections. Winthrop then prepared a review of the collection and their status, and an assessment of needs and priorities.
A series of recommendations concerned the Archives’ function and how work would be accomplished in accord with archival standards. Campbell’s implemented these recommendations and contracted with Winthrop to undertake the implementation work that included appraising and processing new materials, describing records in the database finding aid, and responding to requests for information and documents from employees and managers of Campbell. Winthrop maintained the Archives from 1999 until 2010 when the position was internalized.
