The Boeing Company

Assessment and Consultation of Boeing’s Historical Services Program

To gather information and prepare our report, Winthrop’s Information& Archival Services consultants reviewed Boeing’s archival collections, an estimated 43,800 linear feet of materials stored in three locations, and met with Boeing historians to review the services they provide to the Company. The Winthrop team also conferred with Boeing managers concerning their perceptions of the Archives program and conducted an internal survey to gather information about awareness and use of the Archives collections. The Winthrop team also conducted a benchmarking survey of seven peer companies to obtain information on the scope, budgets, staffing, services, work, and successes. The findings, results of the benchmark survey, recommendations and options, timetable and budget were components of a detailed report presented to Boeing to facilitate planning for the future of both the Archives and Historical Services Program.
