Pendleton Woolen Mills, headquartered in Portland, Oregon, is poised to celebrate the 150th anniversary of its origins in 2013. The iconic American brand company traditionally associated with the Beach Boys' plaid shirts, Native American blankets, and outdoor wear, traces its heritage to 1863 and the earliest weaving endeavors of the Kay/Bishop family.
The company today is thriving in its sixth generation of family ownership, and Pendleton products are marketed around the globe.
The Winthrop Group has provided archival services for Pendleton since 1990. Pendleton's archival collections serve as a source of design inspiration, product and intellectual property documentation, and business information. The trove of archival materials has supported celebrations of the 2009 Pendleton Mill centennial, the 2010 Pendleton Round-Up centennial, a Heritage Hallway exhibit at company headquarters, and has provided inspiration for avant-garde clothing designs that are attracting a new and younger generation of customers.
